About Dr. Godfrey

William S. Godfrey, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Total Joint Specialists. At the office in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Dr. Godfrey specializes in hip and knee replacement and revision surgery.

Dr. Godfrey is an Atlanta native and attended Georgia Institute of Technology for his undergraduate studies as a mechanical engineer. He worked for Caterpillar in Illinois for a time before returning to Georgia to begin his medical training at Emory University School of Medicine. He remained at Emory University for his orthopedic surgery residency, where he was elected chief resident. Dr. Godfrey then completed the Harvard Medical School Total Joint Arthroplasty Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. These experiences provided Dr. Godfrey with advanced training in minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacement, same-day joint replacement, partial knee replacement, and robotic-assisted surgery.

Patients know that Dr. Godfrey takes pride in his individualized approach to patient care, which depends on communication and shared decision-making. His goal is to tailor nonoperative and operative interventions to each individual to maximize their function and quality of life.

Dr. Godfrey currently lives in Atlanta with his wife and three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, mountain biking, and trail running in his spare time.
